May The Devil Fall Asleep

I’m sitting on my doorstep, been out for the night
The dark’s already moving, making room for daylight
I won’t blame it on the whiskey, it must have been the gin
Making me forget, where the hell I have been

I’m doing the dance in the dark on the brink
Saying Good Bye to myself with a smile and a wink
Working the magic to forget the dream
Running up my mind all the way upstream

And I think about what we have done my friend
And for you and for me
I hope the devil falls asleep
On our way around the bend

I can only guess what was will never be again
If I could promise, I’d write it down with my blood in the pen
Get myself caught in the crossfire of the sinister and sacred
In the booklet of words advertising the hatred

So I think about what we have done my friend
And for you and for me
I hope the devil falls asleep
On our way around the bend

You never know when it’s time to pay the bill
But I know that I have had my fill
End over end, we are not alone
Well it’s not like you’re givin’ a dog a bone

I think about what we have done my friend
And for you and for me
I hope the devil falls asleep
On our way around the bend
